A person whose vehicle became trapped in flash flood waters was rescued by police officers early on Sept. 19 near Dixileta Drive and North Valley Parkway, according to Capt. Mike Johnson, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson.
Technical rescue teams were dispatched to the location at about 5 a.m., but Phoenix Police Department personnel arrived first and assisted the person to safety, Johnson said.
The first arriving engine company stayed at the scene to evaluate the patient, while all other personnel returned to service, Johnson added.
The incident occurred as the National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a flash flood warning for parts of Maricopa County, which was in effect until 7:15 a.m. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain passed through the affected areas.
