Work on a new playground and dog park is set to begin in the coming weeks in Germain Park.

The first steps in a $7-million master plan for the park that was endorsed by Sarnia city council in 2023 , the work is priced collectively at about $625,000, a recent city report stated.

Groundbreaking on both projects is expected some time in October, said the city’s Steve Henschel, noting roughly $400,000 of the accessible playground cost is covered by Sarnia’s casino-host revenue this year from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

Lots of community input went into crafting the parks plan, which also calls for washroom improvements, new sports courts, parking improvements, a splash pad, a new pavilion, and shade structures for sports fields, Henschel said.
