The Green Bay School District announced stricter consequences for “unsafe behaviors” and what it hopes will be a rehabilitating "transition" protocol on Sept. 18 after a loaded gun found at Preble High School earlier this month prompted a weeks-long conversation on school security.

“We don’t want to deny you your educational opportunity. That’s, in fact, why we’re here,” Green Bay Superintendent Vicki Bayer said. “But we will make it uncomfortable.”

Parents will be heavily involved in the new system. Physical security systems like metal detectors are still on the table, but the School Board will have to decide the direction the district will ultimately go. The next board meeting is Sept. 22, but the board is expected to get information from the Sept. 15 roundtable on Oct. 13.
