Just four months after Dexter: Original Sin was renewed for a second season, the prequel series was suddenly and unexpectedly scrapped by Showtime . The show’s creator Clyde Phillips spoke out about the decision on a recent episode of the Dissecting Dexter podcast.

“It was a tough phone call I got that night where they had already picked up the show,” Phillips revealed. “I had informed all the writers and actors, and then they unpicked it up, all while picking up Resurrection, which was no surprise. It wasn’t handled well and I’m not happy about it.”

As Deadline reported earlier , the previous Showtime regime announced in early April that Season 2 had been greenlighted, with a writers room to open soon and production dates to be set.
