MINOT — Back in February I reported that Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota's long-time superintendent of public schools, had been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as an under secretary in the Department of Education.

After some delay, during which some speculation about whether Baesler might be confirmed was warranted given the quiet hostility to her nomination coming from our state's junior U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer, it appears, from national reports, as though Baesler's nomination is moving forward. Hers is one of a whopping 108 names to be part of a confirmation bloc to be considered by the full Senate in early October.

Baesler being in this bloc suggests that any behind-the-scenes delays Cramer may have been considering, or deploying, are no longer an obstacle.
