The Blue Jays are going to have to wait until at least Friday to celebrate clinching a playoff berth this season.
The magic number for the Blue Jays to clinch a playoff spot stayed the same after Toronto was shut out by the Tampa Bay Rays and the surging Cleveland Guardians beat the slumping Detroit Tigers .
But after some confusion that indicated Toronto couldn’t clinch until Saturday at the earliest, a statement from MLB clarified on Friday that the team can clinch if they beat the Kansas City Royals on Friday night and two of Boston, Detroit and Cleveland loses.
It’s been a foregone conclusion for almost a month that the Jays would make the playoffs. But considering the Jays’ playoff hopes virtually ended before the trade deadline last year and the team was eliminated on the
