The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has been called to look into an incident involving the Columbus Police Department that took place this morning.

According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 8:36 a.m. on September 19, near 22nd Street and 17th Avenue in Columbus. An officer with the Columbus Police Department initiated a traffic stop when the driver allegedly attempted to hit the officer with his vehicle.

The officer discharged his weapon but did not hit the suspect. A brief pursuit followed until the vehicle came to a stop. The suspect then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended without further incident.

MBI agents are now gathering evidence and assessing the situation. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be shared with the local District A
