TIVERTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Tiverton Police Department said it detonated a “suspicious military projectile” that was found at a business on Main Road Friday.

Police said that officers and firefighters responded to the area around 8:30 a.m. and evacuated the surrounding area.

The State Fire Marshal’s Explosives Operations Division and the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were called to the scene, and removed the device to be disposed of off-site.

It was then safely detonated.
