Toyota is recalling 70,480 vehicles in Canada due to a malfunction in the instrument panel display. This issue may prevent critical information from being shown, which could increase the risk of accidents or injuries, according to a notice from Transport Canada.
The recall affects several models, including the Venza, Highlander, Tacoma, and GR Corolla, as well as various Lexus models. Specifically, the recall is limited to vehicles equipped with a 12.3-inch display.
The problem arises from a software error that can cause the instrument panel to fail at startup. As a result, drivers may not see important information such as vehicle speed, brake system alerts, and tire pressure warning lights. Transport Canada emphasized that the lack of these displays could heighten the risk of a crash.
The affected Lexus models include the 2024 and 2025 LS, the 2025 RX 500H, and the 2024 TX. The impacted Toyota models are the 2025 Camry, the 2023-2025 Crown, the 2025 Crown Signia, the 2023-2024 GR Corolla, the 2024-2025 Grand Highlander, and the 2023-2025 RAV4 and RAV4 Prime, along with the 2024 Tacoma and the 2023-2024 Venza.
Toyota plans to notify vehicle owners by mail and will instruct them to visit a dealership for a software update to the combination meter. In some cases, the dealership may also need to replace the combination meter. Notifications are expected to be sent out by mid-November.
