Drought conditions are sticking around Monroe County and parts of western New York and haven’t been helped by a dry start to September. Through the first half of the month, Rochester has recorded just 0.18 inches of precipitation.

That’s just 10% of normal and ranks as the 16th driest start to September on record, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center.

Since Aug. 1, Rochester has received just 36% of its historical average precipitation, according to AccuWeather.

Dryness has increased throughout the Northeast in the past month, with Monroe County progressing from the abnormally dry designation on Aug. 12 to moderate drought by Sept. 16, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
