The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution Sept. 19 to honor slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, condemn his assassination and urge Americans “to reject political violence.”

The resolution brought by House Speaker Mike Johnson passed 310-58 in the Republican-led chamber, some nine days after Kirk's shooting.

It appeared to be a difficult vote for many liberal lawmakers, who have uniformally condemed his killing but would fall short of celebrating his politics. All House Republicans and 95 Democrats voted in favor, USA TODAY reported, while 38 Democrats voted "present" and 58 in direct opposition.

One familiar Democrat voted yes.
