Darren Waller retired after the 2023 season, but unretired before this season started. The Miami Dolphins traded for him from the New York Giants.

Waller suffered a hip injury before the Dolphins' season opener and missed the following two games as well. However, Mike McDaniel revealed that the tight end is getting close to returning.

"(Dolphins) coach Mike McDaniel told reporters that TE Darren Waller (hip) was close to playing last night and expects him to make his debut next Monday against the (New York) Jets," wrote NFL insider Ian Rapoport on X.

Waller was once one of the best tight ends in the game. He was a Pro Bowler in 2020 for the Las Vegas Raiders. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020.

His last three seasons in the league have been plagued by injuries
