MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — Investigators are looking to identify and apprehend two suspects who may be tied to a string of burglaries at U.S. Post Offices in several counties. One of the most recent ones happened earlier this month in Meriwether County, according to the sheriff.
In a message on the county's Facebook page, Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith said two people went to a post office in the town of Gay, Ga., in the early morning hours on Sept. 8, forcing their way through an interior door.
The suspects, Smith said, accessed the processing area and stole mail that was waiting to be processed.
"The suspects in our case investigation are believed to be responsible for similar burglaries of U.S. Post Offices in Pike, Fayette, and Monroe County as well," the sheriff said.
