Kristin and Candice Paradise jumped at the chance to work at the new on-site battery plant at Cami Assembly in Ingersoll.
The married couple, who have worked at the automaker since the early 2010s, thought a move to the 37,000-square-metre (400,000-square-feet) battery plant that opened in 2024 would shield them from layoffs that have plagued Cami since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When job postings for the new plant went up, both Kristin and Candice applied and were accepted.
“We were told that if we actually got into the battery plant, that we wouldn’t be laid off anymore and we’d be pretty much working six days a week again, and that’s what we wanted to do,” Kristin said.
