FRANKLIN, N.C. – Grammy award-winning songwriter Brett James, known for hits like Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel,” has died in a plane crash.

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame confirmed the tragic news. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a plane registered under James’ legal name, Brett Cornelius, crashed into a field in Franklin, North Carolina.

All three people on board, including James, died in the crash. He was 57 years old.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the incident.
