SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A former first lady of San Francisco has been confirmed as the United States Ambassador to Greece. Kimberly Guilfoyle, who was a married to Gavin Newsom from 2001 until 2006, was confirmed in a Senate roll call vote Thursday.

Guilfoyle was one of 48 nominees confirmed after Republicans invoked the "nuclear option," using a simple majority to change chamber rules. The rule change came after Democrats had forced multiple votes on many of President Donald Trump's nominees.

Guilfoyle was a rising assistant district attorney in San Francisco when she married Newsom, who was elected mayor a couple years later. Following her split from Newsom, Guilfoyle moved east and became a Fox News pundit. After divorcing her second husband, socialite Eric Villency, she later became
