An HGV driver has been jailed after he was caught scrolling social media on his phone moments before he ploughed into the rear of a stationary car on a motorway, killing father-of-two Daniel Aitchison instantly.

Neil Platt, 43, was 'distracted by pornography' on his device as he was driving his lorry from Dumfries in Scotland to Liverpool before his wagon crashed into Mr Aitchison's car on the M58 near Skelmersdale, Lancashire, on May 17 last year.

The driver told investigators he never touched his phone but his in-cab footage showed him reaching to touch his phone, scrolling on a number of social media applications before the crash.
