ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The largest construction project in the city of Albuquerque's history is kicking off later this year. The $62 million Unser and Paseo del Norte widening project is finally getting underway next week after years of planning.
The goal is to help alleviate congestion as people commute to and from the northwest side. During morning rush hour and evening traffic between 4-6 p.m., the area gets very backed up. "Thousands of people on the west side wait in two-lane traffic on the way to work and returning from work every day," Albuquerque District 5 City Councilor Dan Lewis said. "It's a massive project. We're widening these roads, all of Paseo, Unser. We're gonna create an incredible roadway system for westsiders."
