MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Health officials say three people have now tested positive for West Nile virus in Dane County this season.
Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) confirmed the latest total Friday in a Facebook post .
At the end of August, officials reported the county’s first human case of 2025 . Two additional cases has since been identified. All three people were exposed through mosquito bites.
Most people infected with West Nile virus do not develop symptoms, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Those who do may experience fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea or rash. Severe illness is rare but can cause swelling of the brain or spinal cord.
