President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that Democratic U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar "should be impeached" and it "should happen fast," over her comments on Charlie Kirk, but lawmakers are not subject to impeachment and can only be expelled by a two-thirds vote.

Newsweek has reached out to Omar's press team for comment via email on Friday.

Why It Matters

Earlier this week, U.S. Representative Nancy Mace , a South Carolina Republican , pushed to censure Omar over her comments. The measure, which also sought to remove the Minnesota lawmaker from her committee assignments, failed in a 214-213 vote. Impeachment is not a measure taken against members of Congress .
