(WSPA) -- South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, along with 16 other attorneys general, has urged universities and colleges across the United States to protect free speech on their campuses following the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The attorneys general sent a letter to university presidents and deans, emphasizing the importance of maintaining free speech and condemning political violence. They argue that universities should be places for robust debate and that security measures should not infringe on First Amendment rights.
"Universities shouldn’t shut down free speech on campus because of potential danger but should be encouraging civil discourse and condemning political violence at all levels," said Attorney General Wilson.
