WESTLAKE, Ohio -- The City of Westlake is doubling its cybersecurity insurance coverage and will adopt a formal cybersecurity program by Jan. 1 to meet new state requirements.
The city plans to increase its insurance coverage and formalize policies because of recent data breaches involving municipalities across the nation -- including a recent attempt to access Westlake’s computers.
“There has been, as you all know, a spate of cyberattacks on municipalities and all kinds of governments,” city Finance Director Prashant Shah said during a City Council Ad Hoc IT Committee meeting Sept. 15 .
“In fact, there was an attempt to break into our firewall last week or maybe 10 days ago,” Shah said then.
