SOUTH BEND – Notre Dame has been here before.

After suffering its shocking loss to Northern Illinois last season, the Irish needed to win 10 games in a row to make the College Football Playoff, a journey that began with a game against Purdue.

Notre Dame took care of business and then some that afternoon, taking out all their frustration on the Boilermakers in a 66-7 triumph that at the time was the worst loss in Purdue program history.

A year later, the 24th-ranked Irish are in the same situation, likely needing to win 10 in a row to secure a CFP bid, this time after an 0-2 start. Once again, the Boilermakers (2-1) are in their way first, with the 89th meeting between the longtime rivals set for this afternoon at Notre Dame Stadium.
