MOREHEAD, Ky. (WSIL) -- Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a double homicide in Rowan County.

KSP said deputies from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check on South Spring Street in Morehead shortly after 10:15 a.m. Police said they discovered two deceased victims and requested assistance from KSP Post 8.

Detectives identified Joshua W. Cottrell, 44, of Morehead, as the suspect in the deaths of Kayla D. Blake, 37, and her 13-year-old daughter Kennedi McWhorter.

State police said Cottrell was found at a Paducah hospital at 2:00 p.m. He was treated and released from the hospital and faces charges with two counts of murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Cottrell was taken to the McCracken County Jail.
