ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. —

A man is behind bars and charged with murder after a Kentucky mother and daughter were found dead inside a home.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office was conducting a welfare check on South Spring Street in Morehead around 10:15 a.m. Friday when they found two victims dead inside a home.

Morehead is about two hours southeast of Louisville.

Kentucky State Police was called to assist and identified 44-year-old Joshua Cottrell as the suspect.

Police identified the two victims as 37-year-old Kayla Blake and her 13-year-old daughter Kennedi McWhorter.

Cottrell was located at a hospital in McCracken, which is nearly five hours away from Morehead, Friday afternoon. He was treated and taken into custody.
