BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Birmingham Airport Authority is introducing Aira, an app-based service that offers visual interpreting services and on-demand sign language interpretation, to the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

Aira allows subscribers to connect with trained professionals through their mobile phone cameras. Aira Explorer connects the blind and low-vision community with professionals who can describe, navigate and read aloud their surroundings on-demand. Aira ASL provides individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing with live, real-time sign language interpretation using mobile phone cameras, microphones and speakers.
