Ayman Soliman, the former Cincinnati Children's chaplain detained by ICE, has been released and his asylum status has been reinstated.

Soliman came to the U.S. from Egypt in 2014 and was granted asylum in 2018. In July, he was detained by ICE agents during a check-in after his asylum was revoked. Advertisement

He had been in the Butler County Jail ever since, until his release Friday afternoon.

Soliman spoke in front of his supporters during a press conference on Friday evening, expressing his gratitude for the people who stood by his side during the last few months.

"This is beyond a dream," Soliman said. "Thank you, everyone who made that happen."
