Natan Obed has been re-elected as the president of the national organization representing Inuit, and says that one of his key priorities is ensuring Ottawa respects Inuit rights as it moves forward with its mandate, including the implementation of its major projects legislation.

Mr. Obed, who has served as president of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, or ITK, since 2015, won the Thursday election in a 12-1 vote over former CBC host and editor Kevin Kablutsiak. Each presidential term is four years, and this is Mr. Obed’s fourth term.
