JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The Jacksonville Beach pier is known as a spot to watch fireworks, but could it soon be a spot to watch rocket launches?

Seagate Space, a Florida-based company with ties to the Tampa and Jacksonville areas, announced plans for an offshore platform to launch rockets into space.

The COO says they don't have any launches planned for Jacksonville at this point, but it is one of the spots they're interested in.

A rocket launch platform in the middle of the ocean sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, and it has some folks thinking about a world where they could come to Jacksonville Beach to watch a launch.

"You drive pretty far and work pretty hard, and they may or not may not go," said Cathy Hughes while enjoying a beach day at Jacksonville Beach.
