SACRAMENTO, Calif. — ABC's suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show over his remarks on Charlie Kirk's death has drawn comment from California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Newsom, on X, criticized the GOP, saying they do not believe in free speech.

"Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous. The @GOP does not believe in free speech. They are censoring you in real time," Newsom said.

ABC's decision Wednesday came as Nexstar announced its ABC affiliates would pre-empt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” indefinitely over his comments.
