BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Reps. Elise Stefanik and Nick Langworthy have introduced two bills in Congress aimed at strengthening security along the U.S.-Canada border.

The first measure, called the Northern Border Security Enhancement and Review Act, would require the Department of Homeland Security to provide regular threat assessments, updates, and briefings to Congress.

The second proposal, the Integrated Cross Border Law Enforcement Operations Expansion Act, would direct Homeland Security to expand joint operations with Canada across land, air, and maritime areas.

Langworthy said the legislation is needed to address gaps in resources and enforcement along the northern border.

The proposals come as lawmakers continue to debate border security priorities nationwide.
