WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — Just over a week since conservative political activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a public appearance at Utah Valley University, a large crowd of his supporters in Westerly gathered near the town post office to pray for his family.
"It shook the whole country," said Westerly Residents Against Indoctrination's Bob Chiaradio, one of the organizers of the vigil. "We all have to pick up the torch and carry on his legacy for sure."
"We just felt really moved to do something to honor him," added Lori Wycall from the Westerly Republican Committee. "We wanted to hold a vigil where people could come together and let their emotions out."
