Former prime minister Tony Abbott has issued an apology over the Coalition's failed 2025 federal election campaign, declaring the importance of a "reformed" Liberal Party is "what we need" in Australia.
Mr Abbott told the audience on the opening day of the conservative political conference CPAC in Brisbane on Saturday the Coalition needs to do better, as he lamented the alliance's shortfalls since 2013, when he became leader.
He apologised that his own government "did not do better" after he was elected in 2013, despite some achievements he listed including big trade deals, stopping the boats, scrapping the carbon tax, and mining tax.
