NEW ORLEANS — Family and friends are remembering Michael Marryshow, longtime owner of the Red Lantern on Royal Street, after he died earlier this week in a motorcycle accident.

Marryshow’s son, Noah, said his father’s smile was known throughout the French Quarter.

“If you’ve been in the Quarter, you know my father, and you know the spirit that he brought,” he said.

Relatives described him as the glue that held their family together.

“He had a beautiful laugh and was always so positive,” said his niece, Karen Marryshow. “He just had this vibe that was chill, and he really kept in touch with everybody.”

Marryshow’s kindness reached far beyond his relatives. Marcus Heuchan, who met him as a teenager at the French Market, said Marryshow became a father figure.
