The Blue Jays weren’t able to clinch a playoff berth Friday night after getting crushed by the Kansas City Royals but they did get a little bit of good news.

The New York Yankees fell 4-2 to the Baltimore Orioles , which means Toronto’s magic number to clinch the American League East drops to five.

Any combination of Toronto wins and New York losses adding to five would give the Jays the division. That means the earliest the Jays can clinch would be Tuesday night when they host the Boston Red Sox.
