Congressman Johnny Olszewski said Friday that Maryland can rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge both quickly and cost-effectively while also including women- and minority-owned businesses, responding to concerns raised by U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

Duffy, in a letter to Gov. Wes Moore, questioned Maryland’s estimated $1.8 billion cost and 2028 completion timeline for the bridge project. He also warned against using race- or sex-based factors in awarding contracts, saying such practices could be unconstitutional and risk delaying construction.
