ST. LOUIS -- Some 155 games into the 2025 season, the Cardinals still don’t have a grand slam. However, they did get the next best thing on Friday night from veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado to down the rival Brewers at Busch Stadium.

Arenado drilled a three-run double into the left-field corner as the Cardinals scored five times in the fifth inning of a 7-1 victory over the Brewers, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive for another day.

With the win, the Cardinals (75-79) remain five games back of the Mets for the final playoff spot in the National League . Regardless of whether they defy the odds and get into the playoffs, the Cards could have a large say in the seeding for the NL playoffs with games remaining against the Brewers, Giants and Cubs.
