HURRICANE, Washington County — A 22-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly posting threats on social media against a candidate in Hurricane, which caught the attention of the FBI.

On Thursday, Aimee Barton was arrested and booked into jail on one count of threatening assault on an elected official, a misdemeanor.

According to court documents filed in support of her arrest, the Hurricane City Police Department on Wednesday received information that the FBI had received a tip from Instagram that Barton had created a post with a photo and video of the local political figure that read, "I WILL KILL YOU WITH A GUN," as well as posting another message on social media that referred to "ending the local political figure's mortality."
