LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Walden School in Saint Matthews is marking 50 years of educating students with a special anniversary ceremony.

Founded in 1975, the independent school currently serves about 286 students. School leaders, alumni, and community members gathered to celebrate the milestone and show their support.

“It’s all about the students,” said one school official. “Being a 280-student school, I know every child personally. There’s a trust factor and a beautiful relationship that’s hard to find anywhere else.”

The school was named in honor of Henry David Thoreau’s book, Walden .
