Planning Minister John Carey says Northbridge will become Dullsville if music venues are shut down because they’re making too much noise, and has introduced new reforms which will allow venues in the entertainment precinct to increase how much noise they can make.
The minister on Saturday said the government was creating Perth’s first special entertainment precinct in Northbridge, enabling pubs, clubs, restaurants and other venues to legally create noise levels of 90 decibels in the centre of Northbridge, and 79dB in outer areas.
And, in another move to stop Northbridge becoming dull, no new residential developments will be allowed near 90dB venues – centred around William, Lake, Francis and James streets.
