The fans at Citizens Bank Park had already witnessed a form of history.
Now they wanted a true anomaly.
They rose to their feet and whipped out their phone cameras as Kyle Schwarber strode to the plate the night of Aug. 28.
The Phillies had a 19-4 lead on the Braves in the eighth inning, so the outcome was not in doubt. But with his sixth at-bat of an epic evening, Schwarber had a chance to do something outrageous.
“And here comes Kyle Schwarber,” Phillies broadcaster Tom McCarthy said. “No player in baseball history has ever hit five home runs in a game!”
