A season opener to forget for the Portland Winterhawks, as they get smashed on the road 6-1 by the Prince George Cougars.

After going down 3-1 after 1, they had a decent stretch in the 2nd, but couldn’t score, and the Cougars put the game away late.

Portland had 9 players making their WHL debuts, with 3 of their top players away at pro camps, and it showed. One player who returned from camp, Ryan Miller, scored the Winterhawks’ only goal and was their best player.

The Cougars had 6 players making their debuts, and 2 of them, Brock Souch and Alexander Levshyn, were in the 3 stars.

The rematch is Saturday as the Winterhawks play their 2nd of 11 straight on the road.
