IRONTON, Ohio — Mike Belcher had never seen the lakebed of Lake Vesuvius, which he has been visiting since the 1960s, until Wednesday.
Belcher, his daughter Amariah Fultz, and his grandsons, Fowler Fultz, 7, and Finn Fultz, 6, were walking along the shore, trying to find exposed rocks and glass.
“I hate to see it this low,” Belcher said. “It took years for them to restock the fish population, and we will have to do it again.”
Visitors on Wednesday were met with the bottom of the lake. Pockets of water still remain in various spots. Some visitors walked along the lake and took pictures, while others tried to fish.
Belcher said he found out about the drained lake on Facebook, so he decided to go see it for himself.
