Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the launch of the 'GST Bachat Utsav' or 'GST Savings Festival' in an open letter to the nation, coinciding with the start of Navratri celebrations on September 22. He emphasized that the new GST reforms will lead to significant savings for households and ease the financial burden on businesses.

In his letter, PM Modi stated, "As the nation celebrates the beginning of Navaratri, I extend heartfelt wishes to you and your families. This year, the festive season brings an added reason to rejoice." The Next Generation GST reforms aim to simplify the tax structure by consolidating the previous four-tier system into two main slabs of 5% and 18%. Essential items such as food, medicines, and personal care products will now either be tax-free or fall under the lowest tax slab.

The Prime Minister highlighted that these reforms will directly benefit various sections of society, including farmers, women, youth, and small businesses. He noted that in recent years, 25 crore people have risen above the poverty line, contributing to the growth of a new middle class. He added, "If we combine the income tax cuts and the Next Generation GST reforms, they add up to savings of nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore for the people. Your household expenses will reduce, making it easier to fulfill aspirations such as building a home or planning a family vacation."

PM Modi also reflected on the journey of GST since its introduction in 2017, describing it as a turning point that unified the nation under a single tax system. He stated, "GST united the nation economically. 'One Nation, One Tax' brought uniformity and relief."

The Prime Minister urged citizens to support local products, saying, "Let us proudly say - what we buy is Swadeshi. Let us proudly say - what we sell is Swadeshi." He called on state governments to foster a better investment climate and support local manufacturing.

In conclusion, PM Modi wished everyone a joyous Navratri and expressed hope that the new reforms would lead to greater prosperity for all Indian households.
