Stock exchanges NSE and BSE will hold a special Muhurat trading session on Tuesday, October 21, to celebrate Diwali. This trading session will take place from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, as announced by the exchanges in their circulars. Last year, the Muhurat trading was conducted from 6 pm to 7 pm.
This year's session marks the start of Vikram Samvat 2082, the Hindu calendar year that begins on Diwali. It is widely believed that trading during this auspicious hour brings prosperity and financial growth. On Diwali, the market will be closed for regular trading, but this one-hour window will allow trading across various segments, including equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB).
The pre-opening session is scheduled from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm. Market analysts highlight that Diwali is seen as a favourable time to start new ventures, and many investors participate in the Muhurat trading session with the hope of attracting prosperity for the year ahead. However, due to the limited trading time, the markets may experience increased volatility. Analysts emphasize that the significance of this session is more symbolic than focused on immediate profits.
