The decomposed body of a 65-year-old woman at a flat in Southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, her 70-year-old husband in a critical condition, and their mentally challenged son living with them — this is what the police found on Sunday night after the family’s neighbours alerted the authorities, said officers.

According to the police, a PCR call was received at the Jamia Nagar police station around 11:10 pm on Sunday. The caller said that his sister and brother-in-law were not responding to calls or opening the door of their flat. A team of officers rushed to the spot, where the caller was waiting. The apartment door was locked from the inside and was broken with the help of neighbours, officers said.
