ST. LOUIS — An increased use of golf carts in some St. Louis neighborhoods in recent years has spurred an alderman to push for city regulations on the vehicles.

“I don’t want to take them away,” said Alderman Matt Devoti, who introduced such a bill earlier this month. “But they’re not a novelty anymore. With the volume of carts, we’ve got to put restrictions on them.”

Among other things, Devoti’s measure would bar people from driving or parking golf carts on sidewalks, restrict them to speeds of 25 mph or less and require users to be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
