Days after a protest by students at Tezpur University over the administration’s “insensitive” management of Assam’s mourning period for the Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the university has announced plans to honour the late artist by erecting a statue in his memory on campus.

The university is also mulling conferring upon him an honorary doctorate posthumously in recognition of his contribution to Assamese culture and music.

The university will also pitch for a scholarship in Zubeen Garg’s name within the Department of Cultural Studies, aimed at supporting and nurturing young talent in art, culture, and music.
