BEAUMONT, Texas — A former first-grade teacher accused of injuring a student has been found not guilty, according to her attorney Ryan Gertz.

Gladys Louise Jackson, who taught at Jones Clark Elementary, was charged with injury to a child/elderly. She faced 2 to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if she had been found guilty.

Prosecutor D. Boyd told jurors the alleged incident happened March 24, 2022. Police were informed that a 6-year-old student reported being slapped in the mouth by Jackson, who was his teacher at the time.

Gertz countered that the child had previously attacked a teacher, forcing that teacher to leave. Gertz said the boy was then placed in Jackson’s class, where he was involved in fights with multiple students.
