Pre-market Update: Indian equity benchmark indices are expected to open on a cautious note on Wednesday tracking muted global sentiment. At 8:10 am, GIFT Nifty futures were trading 55.5 points higher at 25,188.5 levels, hinting at a choppy start for the market.

Across Asia, sentiment was weak after overnight losses in the US markets. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.11 per cent, while South Korea’s Kospi was down 0.2 per cent. Overnight on Wall Street, the S&P 500 fell 0.55 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.95 per cent as big tech stocks retreated. The Dow Jones, however, inched up 0.2 per cent. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s comments that the path for rate cuts “is not clear” further dampened risk appetite.
